laei.net is a place for small ears. Children do not open their own accounts here — they listen through a parent's or guardian's account. This notice explains, in plain language, what that means for their privacy and what rights parents have.
Who this notice is for
This notice applies to everyone under 16 in the European Economic Area, under 18 in the United Kingdom for marketing purposes, and under 13 in the United States (COPPA). Where local law sets a lower or higher age, the stricter rule applies.
We do not create child accounts
There is no sign-up flow for children. A parent creates a single adult account. When a child listens on that account, they are listening as the account holder's guest. We do not ask for a child's name, date of birth, school, or photograph.
What is collected while a child listens
- Which story was played and how far it ran. This is what lets the site remember where the story paused.
- Basic technical data — the device type and a session cookie — so playback works.
This information is stored against the parent's account, not against a separate child profile. We do not build advertising or behavioural profiles from it. We do not use it to train generic machine-learning models.
What we never do
- No targeted advertising to anyone on the site — adult or child.
- No third-party trackers, pixels, or analytics sharing child playback with external parties.
- No in-story purchases, upsells, or nag prompts aimed at children.
- No chat, comments, or user-to-user messaging that a child could use unsupervised.
Parental control
Because the account belongs to the parent, the parent controls everything. From your settings you can:
- See the listening history on your account;
- Clear it entirely, or clear individual items;
- Pause playback memory so nothing new is recorded;
- Delete the account, which removes the history along with it.
If you believe a child has given us personal data
If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child has sent us personal information that we should not hold (for example, in a support email), write to safety@laei.net. We will review and delete it promptly, typically within a few business days.
Content safety
Stories on laei.net are curated. There is no user-submitted audio or user comment area that a child could stumble into. If you find any content you believe is not appropriate for children, please flag it to safety@laei.net and we will review it quickly.
